Hey, my name is Evaldas and i am international student from Lithuania. I am 6 term student at Gnomon. I am working on my assignment for digital set class.
idea:
i always been fascinated by ancient cities so i decided to reCreate one. So i spend several hours at bookstore and found one illustration that i like.
Reference:
i found a lot of reference about Greek temples, academys, other famous buildings but it was hard to find any about ordinary people houses. So i had to improvise abit. Also movie "troy" helped a bit.
Camera:
I have changed the camera angle, because I didnt want to reveal the whole city at the first frames. Check out the previz in here --->>>
Modeling:
I had hard time to populate the city, illustration wasnt detailed enough. So i had to improvise. To plan every yard and building wasn't that easy. Also had scale issues. had to scale down all the windows. If u see somewhere where its not working please let me know. its my first city so i learned a lot from mistakes i did.
Lighting:
I wanted to create soft, golden hour lighting. Also i will be doing a night scene. This is lighting i am going for: I am using mental ray physical sun and sky. With mia_exposure_photographic for more control.
Texturing:
i will try to get away with procedural texturing. Will see how it goes. I might need to do file texturing too...
Trees and bushes:
i am using Onyx plugin for trees in foreground, and cards for trees in the background. I am using maya 2009 new render proxy feature for referencing the trees. My scene is around 420k. But i wasn't saving too much. My trees in the foreground are around 10 to 20mb, in the background 5 to 10mb. Later i will massively populate the scene with trees. But for now its ok...
If you have any suggestions please free to comment. that would really help.
and sorry for my English
